It is the natural process for a wetland to eventually fill with sediment until it is no longer a wetland.  It has gotten to the point at Heron Heaven's wetland, that it is filling with sediment and  plant life and needs to be dredged.  The Army Corp of Engineers and the Papio Nebraska Resource District is proceeding to dredge the wetland and restore a portion of the old oxbow of the Papio Creek.  Unfortunately it is necessary to close the trails during the construction.  We expect construction to last until early spring.  In the meantime the Education Center will continue to be open and the Camera Club will still have it's meeting on the 3rd Saturday of the month.  Please come visit us and watch the birds feed out back and visit with our turtle in the building while the wetland is being restored.
