Bat House

Did you know Nebraska is home to 13 different species of bats?  While many view bats as a nuisance or creepy critters of the night, bats are extremely beneficial to our environment!  Between consuming copious amounts of insects each night (up to 125% of their body weight in some cases) and use of their guano (bat poop) as fertilizer, these flying mammals play a significant role in Nebraska’s diverse ecosystems!  Check out the links below to learn more about what species of bats live in Nebraska, the function of a Bat Box and how to build your own, along with other interesting facts about this unique flighted mammal.
